NICARAGUAN CITIES AND TOWNS

Thanks for surfing my Nicaragua website and I hope you, wether you're a nica or not, enjoy the pictures and information. I decided to start with the cities/provinces section. So far (as of Nov.2003), I have 6 sub-section and a lot of pictures, including many of wallpaper quality. So, here it is ...

Nicaragua, located in Central America, has an extention of almost 130,000 km2 (similar to the size of N.Y. State) of which, more than 10,000 km2 belong to bodies of water (mainly by the Cocibolca & Managua Lakes). The country is divided into 15 "departamentos" (provinces) and 2 autonomous regions adding a total of 151 counties. The most important cities, after the capital, are: León, Granada, Matagalpa, Puerto Cabezas (I was born here!) and Bluefields. Now, let's check them out.

Managua, the capital cityFirst, we'll give a little visit to the capital city, Managua. It's been the capital for more than 151 years and during this period, it has suffered prosperity as well as devastation. Check out the sightseeings and learn about the extremely important archeology site it possesses.

Rivas's Central ParkThen we go south to Rivas, a province with a very promising future, at least economically speaking. It offers almost a complete pack to the visitors: from virgin beaches to volcano tourism; From hiking to surfing and adventure to archeology. But this is certain, it's THE place to find a beach that fits you.

Masaya's famous hammocksNext is Masaya , famous for its volcano and local artisans, but there are other amazing natural beauties and interesting places to visit. Check them all out.

Now, we go back into the colonial times and visit the former capital, León City (down-left). This city is mostly known for its rich past, but León also enjoys volcano-tourism and possesses some beautiful beaches.

We continue in the colonial times and tour the oldest city in the American continent, Granada (down-middle) and its eco-tourism and adventure sites.
To wrap things up, it'll be Nicaragua's East Coast (up-right). This region is totally different to the rest. Learn more about our Afro-Caribbean culture and check out some of the most virgin places in the country.

So, get ready, maximize your browser's window, get a drink and start surfing my Nicaragua website...
